Instrument transcription, not only groove feel

Groove Template Extractor records timing and velocity on one reusable note lane. Drum Loop to MIDI adds a different job: it uses low-frequency energy, spectral shape, zero crossings and decay to assign each transient to kick, snare or closed hi-hat. The result is a multi-instrument GM drum pattern.

This is also different from Voice to Instrument, which follows one pitched melody. Percussive classification does not estimate musical pitch and is intended for drum-focused loops.

FAQ

Can this separate drums that hit at exactly the same time?
Not reliably. One detected transient becomes one event, so layered kick, snare or hi-hat hits may be represented by only the dominant class and need manual correction or an added event.
How is this different from Groove Template Extractor?
Groove Template Extractor preserves timing and velocity as one-note feel data. This transcriber assigns each detected hit to a GM drum class and exports a multi-instrument drum pattern.
How is it different from Voice to Instrument?
Voice to Instrument tracks monophonic pitched notes. This tool detects unpitched percussive attacks and maps their spectral shape to kick, snare or closed hi-hat.
Which MIDI notes are exported?
The Standard MIDI file uses General MIDI note 36 for kick, 38 for acoustic snare and 42 for closed hi-hat on MIDI channel 10.
