How to use dynamic EQ online

  1. Load audio or generate the local multi-band dynamics demo.
  2. Select Low, Body, Presence or Air; then choose the shape, frequency, Q and static gain.
  3. Set threshold, ratio, timing and signed Range. Negative range cuts; positive range boosts when the detector crosses threshold.
  4. Use band Bypass or Solo to diagnose the region, render locally, compare three signals and export WAV or MP3.

Dynamic EQ versus static EQ and multiband compression

A static equalizer applies the same response across the whole recording. Dynamic EQ keeps each band's static gain, then moves that band only as its frequency-filtered envelope crosses the threshold. This is useful when a resonance appears on some notes or syllables but not others.

A multiband compressor divides the spectrum into broad non-overlapping crossover regions. These dynamic EQ bands are independently positioned and may be narrow, wide or shelf-shaped. They can overlap, so aggressive settings can interact; use Solo and Difference rather than assuming more bands are always better.

What does a dynamic EQ do?
A dynamic EQ filters a chosen frequency region and changes that region only when its own detector crosses a threshold. It can reduce intermittent boom or harshness without applying the same static cut throughout the recording.
How is this different from Equalizer and Multiband Compressor?
Equalizer applies a static response. Multiband Compressor splits broad crossover ranges into separate compressors. Dynamic EQ places narrower or shelf-shaped detectors at editable frequencies, so each band can react independently and overlap other bands.
What does signed Range mean?
Negative range dynamically cuts the selected region above threshold. Positive range dynamically boosts it. The absolute value caps the movement; ratio and signal level may produce less movement than that cap.
Can dynamic EQ create artifacts?
Yes. Fast timing, narrow Q, overlapping boosts or deep cuts can pump, ring or change transients. Use band Solo and Difference audition, then reduce range or slow the timing if the change sounds exposed.
