How a real flanger creates moving comb filters

A flanger mixes the dry signal with one very short delayed copy. The delay moves continuously, so the frequencies that cancel and reinforce also move. This produces the familiar sweeping comb-filter pattern. Feedback sends part of the delayed signal back around the delay line, sharpening the peaks and notches.

This renderer uses linear interpolation at fractional sample positions rather than jumping between whole-sample delays. Stereo phase offsets the right-channel LFO relative to the left; it does not add extra chorus voices. A mono source stays mono, while a stereo source can use true left/right phase separation.

What makes a flanger different from chorus?
A flanger uses a much shorter moving delay and usually feeds part of the delayed signal back into itself. Mixing it with the dry signal creates closely spaced moving comb-filter notches. Chorus normally uses longer delays and multiple voices for perceived doubling.
What do positive and negative feedback sound like?
Positive feedback reinforces one family of comb peaks, while negative feedback flips alternating recirculations and shifts the peak-and-notch character. Higher absolute feedback sounds sharper and more resonant; this tool caps it at 90 percent for stability.
Does the flanger add a tail or change my channels?
The sample rate and mono or stereo channel count are preserved. A deterministic tail follows feedback toward minus 60 decibels and is capped at 750 milliseconds. Original comparison is padded with silence to the same timeline.
Is my audio uploaded, and can I export WAV or MP3?
The selected file is decoded, processed and encoded on your device and is not uploaded to AudioWrench. WAV is a new 16-bit PCM render and MP3 is a new lossy local encode; source metadata is not copied.
