A controllable creative record-wear model
Surface noise uses a seeded integer hash, so every dust event and hiss sample is reproducible. Dust Density controls event rate while Dust Level controls impulse energy. Stereo Wear blends shared surface noise toward independent left/right patterns instead of simply widening the dry source.
Wow and flutter move a bounded fractional read position behind the current sample. The delay never feeds back into itself and never reads beyond the source bounds. Groove Bandwidth applies a sequential high-pass and low-pass response, followed by normalized gentle saturation and the final Dry/Wet blend.
Vinyl Effect is not Bitcrusher
This workflow never reduces decoded bit depth, never sample-holds the signal and never changes the decoded sample rate. Its character comes from timing drift, deterministic surface events, bandwidth and soft wear. Use Bitcrusher when intentional amplitude quantization and reduced time resolution are the goal.
Limits worth knowing
- This is a creative digital effect, not an authentic physical pressing, turntable capture, restoration tool or forensic model.
- The seeded noise is deterministic but not cryptographic. Changing the seed intentionally changes the surface pattern.
- The bounded variable delay preserves frame count; its start boundary is zero-padded rather than wrapped.
- The sample bound prevents non-finite output but is not a true-peak limiter. Leave output headroom before lossy export.
- Files over 80 MB, longer than 15 minutes or beyond the screen-specific local memory budget are refused before rendering.
