How to configure the background sound

  1. In Step 1, play the reference tone at a low level and choose the approximate pitch you want to use.
  2. In Step 2, choose a mode: notched noise, pink noise or layered tones.
  3. For notched noise, set the notch width so the gap sits neatly over your pitch.
  4. Keep the volume low, optionally add a timer, or download the configured background-sound loop for offline use.

How do I choose a reference pitch?
Start at a low level, play the reference tone and move the frequency slider until you reach the pitch you want to use for the sound experiment. The logarithmic slider covers 200 Hz to 12 kHz. Treat the setting as approximate and uncalibrated, not as a clinical measurement.
What is notched noise in this tinnitus masker?
Notched noise is broadband noise with a narrow frequency band removed around the selected pitch. Some people choose it as background sound, but this generator does not establish that it treats tinnitus or will change symptoms.
